Description :

Nurse-patient ratios on nights are 1 : 6-7.

The unit has 15 beds.

Common diagnoses include cardiac rule out, low heart score, low-level surgical cases, and abdominal pain.

Typical patient conditions involve pneumonia, COPD, radiation patients, and acute kidney injury.

Occasional surgical cases may include laparoscopic cholecystectomy and appendectomy.

There is a shared charge nurse with the emergency department.

A midlevel provider is available 24 / 7 in the unit.

Patient care assistants are present, with 2 assigned per shift.

Telemetry is available on the unit, and RNs are responsible for reading monitors.

Centralized monitoring is also utilized.

Weekend requirement consists of 4 shifts within a 4-week period.

Holidays require working 2 out of 5 designated holidays, including the eves.

RNs may float to medical-surgical towers if needed.

Scrub color is navy blue.

Unit-specific orientation includes one day of clinical and one day on the floor.

Cancellation policy allows for cancellation of hours equivalent to the weekly guaranteed hours for the assignment.

Charting system used is EPIC.

BSN is not required.

Trauma level for the unit is 2.

This position is in an acute care setting.
