Central Sterile Team Lead
Under the guidance and supervision of the Central Sterile Supervisor, supports the operation of the OR by sterilizing, cleaning, wrapping, storing and distributing supplies, instruments and equipment used in the care of patients. As Lead, trains newly hired staff and employees. Oversees the daily operations of the Central Sterile Team, including prioritizing needs based off of OR schedule.
Qualifications and Education : Education : High school diploma or GED required. Qualifications : Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) required. Minimum of 1 year work experience in a Central Sterile area required. Previous experience in leadership preferred. Computer proficiency, which includes word processing and spreadsheets, required. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities : Oversees the day-to-day activity of the Central Sterile Team. Plans staff assignments to assure adequate coverage and the proper mix of staff. Reviews with central sterile staff the following-days schedule to ensure that all instruments are available for usage. Demonstrates expertise in the execution of the duties and responsibilities of a Central Sterile Tech. Trains new staff and assists with their orientation. Prepares and checks instruments and supplies for case by sterilizing supplies and equipment necessary for each procedure. Maintains an orderly system for accomplishing the required level of instrument preparation, maintenance and distribution. Demonstrates a good rapport and cooperative relationship with all members of the team. Demonstrates the ability to adapt to changes in the workload and work as part of the team to finish the schedule as necessary. Assesses any changes, delays, or cancellations in the daily schedule, working in conjunction with the OR Scheduling Coordinator and Central Sterile Supervisor. Ensures that all cases are picked and in accordance with physician preference cards, working in conjunction with nursing staff and central sterile staff. Oversees and assists in correct cleaning, assembly and sterilization of instrument sets. Functions as Central Sterile Tech as needed. Ensures proper operation of sterilizer units prior to use on a daily basis. Ensures instruments are processed and redistributed as needed. Avoids delays and provides maximum efficiency by being aware of scheduled times. Assists with physician needs. Promotes open communication within the hospital to foster a positive, cohesive work environment. Interprets hospital policies and procedures. Provides leadership and direction in accordance with these policies and procedures. Fosters professional growth and development of central sterile staff. Maintains confidentiality of all patient, organization and physician information; respects the patient's privacy. Manages conflict and frustration in a positive and constructive manner. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of departmental safety policies and procedures; participates in identification and evaluation of potential department safety problems and precautions. Adheres to department specific OSHA and infection control guidelines regarding health maintenance and infection prevention 100% of the time. Assists the Central Sterile Supervisor in interviewing staff for the Central Sterile area and with the completion of performance evaluations for assigned staff. Serves as a resource in areas of expertise to other staff. Fosters effective public relations for the hospital. Communicates to the Central Sterile Supervisor any pertinent events or issues. Other duties as assigned.
