Tool Maker

A local manufacturing company in Elmira Heights, NY, a global leader in the electronic fuel pump industry, is seeking a skilled and experienced TOOL MAKER to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, fabricating maintaining, and repairing precision tools and dies ensuring they meet stringent quality standards and support efficient production processes. They are seeking an individual who is a mechanical innovator and has the drive and ability to get the job done.

Primary Responsibilities : The Tool Maker candidate is required to be experienced in operating machinery to make machine parts and tools. We are looking for a self-starter who has the ability to :

Interpret blueprints or design specifications to develop tools and dies.

Operate and maintain machines including lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind or otherwise shape parts to specific dimensions and finishes.

File, grind, shim and adjust different parts to properly fit them together.

Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity and defects.

Perform quality checks on completed tools and dies to ensure they are function ready.

Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure parts meet specifications.

Modify and repair tools, dies, fixtures and gauges as required.

Coordinate with engineers and other production staff to understand specific requirements and to troubleshoot problems.

Operate all equipment in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize risk of injury or property damage.

Minimum Requirements :

High School Diploma or GED and formalized vocational training or journeyman certification in tool & die making and (5) five years of machining experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Knowledge of tooling principles, including precision measurement, blueprint reading and metallurgy.

Ability to troubleshoot complex tooling issues.

Detail oriented and the abilities to thoroughly complete all work tasks.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Various other duties as assigned or needed

Job Type and Pay : Union position (UAW)

Full-time, Monday-Friday, 7 : 00am – 3 : 30pm

$27.74 per hour
