About the Role

Under the direction of the program director, the lead clinician serves as a clinical and administrative leader within the FSP program, providing direct clinical support and training to other clinicians. This role ensures patient-centered, evidence-based care for clients, oversees clinical documentation and compliance, and acts as a resource and mentor for staff. The lead clinician provides field-based crisis services and guidance to clinicians, supporting effective assessment, intervention, and stabilization for clients. The lead clinician also assists with training, program development, and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications :

  • Masters degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Counseling, Psychology or related field.
  • Qualifies as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) by the Los County Department of Mental Health.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience in behavioral health, with at least one year in a supervisory or lead role preferred.
  • Must meet the eligibility requirements to apply for licensure with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Licensed Highly Preferred.
  • Must be able to pass California State Department of Justice criminal background investigation, Live Scan and / or fingerprinting.
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based practices, ethical standards, and relevant regulations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have a valid California Drivers license and the availability of a vehicle with adequate insurance.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills with the ability to effectively guide, support, and motivate a team of clinicians to ensure high-quality service delivery and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications is required for effective documentation, communication, and collaboration.
  • Strong administrative skills, including organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, are essential for this role.
  • Responsibilities :
  • Mentor and support staff assigned in clinical assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic intervention strategies.
  • Provide field-based crisis intervention services and guidance to clinicians to clients at risk of hospitalization, or incarceration.
  • Maintain productivity of 15 hours of billable service per week and submit progress notes in the electronic health record within 24 hours of direct service.
  • Conduct individual psychotherapy, family therapy, and groups as necessary. Utilize evidence-based interventions for improved outcomes.
  • Provide effective leadership to the clinical team by guiding, supporting, and motivating clinicians, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment, and ensuring the consistent delivery of patient-centered services.
  • Assist Program Managers and Directors with reviewing and countersigning clinical documentation submitted by new staff and staff requiring extra clinical support for at least 90 days who require co-signature, ensuring accuracy, compliance with regulatory standards, and timely completion in accordance with agency policies.
  • Communicate with Program Managers and Directors daily regarding documentation that is out of compliance and follow-up to ensure documentation is corrected and re-submitted.
  • Support the Program Director and Program Manager with facilitating onboarding, in-service training, and ongoing professional development for new (for at least 90 days) and existing staff. Provide in-service training and identify outside resources as needed.
  • Prepare and conduct weekly clinical meetings and case consultations with program managers by having current information on the status of all assigned clients.
  • Collaborate with outside providers and clinic staff to ensure integrated, coordinated care for clients, facilitating communication, and joint treatment planning.
  • Conduct weekly chart reviews for new staff for at least 90 days and staff identified by Directors (including new cases enrolled, cases discharged, and random selection of active cases to meet monthly quota) utilizing the chart review tool and checklist provided by QA to ensure clinical documentation meets SCHARP and other regulatory standards.
  • Represent the agency at internal and external meetings as assigned.
  • Participate in the implementation of agency-identified Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) interventions, treatment strategies, practices, and service elements to improve outcomes for the population served.
  • Meets weekly with the program director and keeps informed of all aspects of the program promptly. Ensure all FSP unique protocols are being qualitatively followed and report to the program director any discrepancies of established clinical and administrative systems.
  • Complete the Los Angeles Department of Mental Health (LACDMH) LPS training and obtain the Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) Act designation (required to assess and write applications for a hold) after 6 months of hire and maintain current.
  • Provide crisis intervention services to clients at risk of hospitalization, detention and / or incarceration to avert hospitalization, detention, and / or incarceration. Participate in the on-call rotation to provide needed crisis intervention services for clients after hours.
  • Assist program managers with interviewing new staff as needed.
  • Work as a team with relevant inter / intra-agency teams such as the Department of Mental Health, Department of Health Services, and psychiatrists to provide consistent services.
  • Other administrative and clinical duties as assigned.
