Summary :
The Field Recruiter is responsible for attracting, sourcing, and hiring qualified field employees for landscaping and construction projects. This role plays a critical part in maintaining a strong, skilled workforce through proactive outreach, field engagement, and consistent communication with project leadership. The recruiter ensures staffing goals are met while maintaining compliance with company standards and state / federal employment laws.
Key ResponsibilitiesRecruitment & Sourcing
- Partner with operations, superintendents, and project managers to understand current and future labor needs.
- Develop and execute local recruiting strategies to attract skilled laborers, crew leads, foremen, and seasonal workers.
- Maintain a consistent presence in the field — visiting job sites, talking to crews, and identifying potential candidates.
- Manage job postings and online advertising across multiple platforms (Indeed, Craigslist, ZipRecruiter, Facebook, etc.).
- Build and maintain a pipeline of candidates through referrals, walk-ins, social media, and local networking.
- Partner with community organizations, workforce centers, and trade schools to establish talent pipelines.
- Represent the company at job fairs, hiring events, and community workforce initiatives.
Screening & Selection
Review resumes and applications; conduct phone screens and in-person interviews.Evaluate candidates for job fit, skill level, and reliability.Coordinate interviews with field supervisors and ensure timely follow-up and feedback.Manage pre-employment testing, background checks, and reference verification.Prepare and deliver job offers; ensure pay rates and start dates align with project budgets.Onboarding & Compliance
Coordinate new hire orientations and ensure all pre-employment documentation is completed accurately.Verify I-9s, work eligibility, and ensure compliance.Work with HR and Safety to ensure new hires complete safety training and equipment certifications.Assist with issuing uniforms, badges, and PPE for new hires.Track seasonal rehires and ensure returning workers meet all compliance and eligibility requirements.Field Engagement & Retention
Conduct regular visits to job sites to monitor staffing levels and gather feedback from supervisors.Serve as a field liaison between HR and operations, addressing attendance, performance, and turnover issues.Implement retention strategies such as referral programs, recognition incentives, and engagement events.Support bilingual communication and assist non-English-speaking employees with HR processes when needed.Maintain relationships with seasonal workers to ensure successful re-recruitment during peak seasons.Reporting & Continuous Improvement
Track and report recruiting metrics including time-to-fill, cost-per-hire, and source effectiveness.Analyze turnover data and provide insights to leadership for workforce planning.Maintain accurate records in the applicant tracking system (ATS).Recommend improvements to recruitment strategies, job postings, and hiring practices.Stay current on labor market trends, wage competitiveness, and workforce regulations.Qualifications :
Education : High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or related field preferred.Experience : 2–4 years of recruiting experience in construction, landscaping, manufacturing, or other field-based industries.
Skills :
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to engage with diverse field employees.
Bilingual English / Spanish required.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and recruiting systems (ATS, HRIS).Ability to multitask, manage priorities, and travel to field sites as needed.Working Conditions :
Combination of office, field, and on-site environments.Frequent travel between project locations and recruiting events.Occasional evening or weekend work during seasonal peaks.Benefits :
