• 1 year of experience in a medical-surgical setting
• Experience with common diagnoses such as pneumonia, UTI, gastrointestinal bleed, and alcohol withdrawal
• Ability to titrate certain drips, excluding cardiac drip titration
• Flexibility to float to lower acuity patients on other units

Description :

The unit has 48 beds with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1 : 5-7 on days and 1 : 6-8 on nights.

Common patient diagnoses include pneumonia, urinary tract infections, altered mental status, gastrointestinal bleeding, alcohol withdrawal, and falls or weakness.

RNs may be required to titrate specific medications such as heparin, bumetanide, and furosemide, with exceptions noted.

Each day shift will have two charge nurses, who will also take patient assignments.

Patient care technicians are available with an average ratio of 1 : 10-12.

Job duties for patient care technicians include taking vitals, managing blood glucose monitoring, performing EKGs, and assisting with patient hygiene.

Respiratory therapists are responsible for administering treatments and monitoring equipment, while RNs mainly monitor the patients.

A monitor technician is available to read telemetry strips and alert RNs of any issues; RNs are not expected to interpret telemetry.

Self-scheduling is not available; managers will work with staff on scheduling and requested time off.

RNs are expected to work every other weekend and may be included in holiday rotation.

There is no call or standby requirement for this position.

Navy blue scrubs are required for RNs, while patient care technicians wear ceil blue.

The charting system used is from a major electronic health record provider.
