Sr. Lab Robotics & Automation Engineer

Overview

Under the direction of the Sr. Automation Manager, the Senior Automation Reliability Engineer (Robotics) applies technical expertise, research and development experience, and collaborative problem-solving skills to design, implement, and sustain advanced robotics and automation solutions. This role ensures system reliability, supports laboratory efficiency and scalability, and contributes to the continuous improvement of automated processes across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Program & optimize robotic platforms such as Hamilton, Tecan, and Agilent—writing and refining custom scripts, liquid classes, labware definitions, and scheduling methods.
• Own the reliability lifecycle—proactively monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain instruments; partner with vendors and service engineers to minimize downtime and extend system longevity.
• Design and validate automated workflows—develop protocols, performance qualifications, and maintenance documentation while training operators on best practices.
• Innovate at scale—work across R&D, Operations, and technical teams to evaluate new technologies, validate instruments, and implement automation solutions that support clinical growth.
• Lead knowledge sharing—train staff, document best practices, and occasionally travel to other labs to support cross-site automation initiatives.
• Integrate robotics with informatics—collaborate with software, bioinformatics, and R&D teams to connect automated systems with LIMS, scheduling software, and other digital tools.
• Stay ahead of the curve—attend trainings and conferences to bring in new ideas, methods, and technologies to keep our lab automation at the forefront.
• Contribute to team culture—collaborate, problem-solve, and help refine processes that make the entire group more effective and future-ready.
