Overview
The Director of Finance provides leadership and direction to the entire Finance team while ensuring the long‑term financial health and growth of the hotel. The ideal candidate has strong food & beverage experience as well as hotel experience.
Responsibilities
Finance Operations
Direct and administer all financial operations of the hotel to include, but not limited to, asset protection, financial reporting, systems management, hotel‑wide budget and forecasting, department management, and meeting participation and facilitation.
Ensure compliance with all Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Oversee all aspects of accounts receivable, credit, accounts payable, income audit, payroll, cash handling, cash control, purchasing and receiving.
Monitor and approve all sales, purchases, salaries and expenses of the hotel.
Assist and counsel department heads in the interpretation and analysis of financial data, recommending courses of action to maximize hotel profitability.
Serve as financial advisor to hotel management and ownership.
Weekly + Monthly tasks
Responsible for weekly cash flow forecast / planning, determine weekly check run.
Oversee preparation of monthly financial reporting package including financial statement, balance sheet, and cash flow.
Reconcile monthly billings and receivables with the hotel accounting team.
Reconcile balance sheet.
Prepare monthly state and city sales tax.
Record monthly accruals.
Lead monthly P & L reviews and forecast meetings with the management team and ownership.
Allocation of expenses amongst F&B outlets.
Prepare Monthly Financial package.
P&L Consolidated.
P&L Detail by Outlet.
Revenue analysis.
Balance sheet.
Forecast.
Projects & Ad hoc :
Prepare annual plan, projections and budgets.
Review and update payroll allocations.
ROI analysis.
Contract review.
External audits for worker’s compensation, sales tax, other insurance.
Year‑end audit / tax.
People Success
Support with recruitment, facilitation of interviews, and selection of Finance team members and leaders. Conduct new hire training and encourage growth and continued training for established team members. Empower team to deliver the highest quality guest experience.
Provide coaching and support to the Finance team. Utilize interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence, and inspire team. Solicit feedback and utilize an open‑door policy encouraging transparency and healthy communication. Build and maintain a culture that maximizes guest and employee experience and attracts top talent.
Establish and maintain collaborative internal and external relationships and ensure direct reports do the same.
Celebrate successes and publicly recognize contributions. Participate in team member recognition programming.
Participate in the implementation of corrective action plans. Ensure policies and procedures are followed by the team and when needed administer fair and consistent disciplinary action including documentation of corrective action plans.
Skills
Strong command of software applications, especially Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and hotel-specific platforms (Infor‑HMS, ADP, Birchstreet, M3 Accounting Core).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised.
Strong leadership skills, highly-developed organizational abilities and sound administrative skills.
Must be able to prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
Working knowledge of food and beverage and hotel cost controls.
Qualifications
8+ years’ experience in hospitality finance management, including 3 years in a leadership role. Luxury hotel experience preferred.
College Degree in Finance or related degree required.
Working knowledge of local financial practices and taxation; work experience in country required.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
Ability to work flexible hours.
