Job Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Electric Transmission Line Engineer to lead a dynamic team in a fast-paced environment, tackling the complexities of electric transmission. This key position involves managing projects and engineers focused on both overhead and underground electric transmission line design for major utilities across the nation, applying NESC, ASCE, ACI, NEC, and other relevant standards on projects ranging from 34.5 kV to 500 kV.

The ideal candidate will guide a team adept in engineering analyses, PLS-CADD modeling, structural loading calculations, and the drafting of plans and specifications. Responsibilities will encompass various phases including project planning, engineering, environmental assessment, permitting, and construction management.

This senior role emphasizes client relations, staff management, business development, and project execution, providing opportunities to lead and develop an expanding engineering team. The candidate must inspire, mentor, and communicate clear visions to their team to foster a collaborative and positive culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct multiple design teams working on various projects for a diverse set of clients.
  • Mentor and cultivate the growth of engineering talent within the organization.
  • Oversee staff performance through timesheet approvals and annual reviews.
  • Contribute as a leadership team member in the Transmission Line Section.
  • Craft proposals in response to RFPs, RFIs, and RFQs, defining scopes of work.
  • Encourage innovative problem solving and promote continuous improvement in engineering processes.
  • Effectively delegate tasks, forecast workloads, and participate in recruitment initiatives to meet aggressive growth targets.
  • Ensure the highest quality in deliverables through stringent quality control processes.
  • Foster strong client relationships to drive business development.
  • Manage project portfolios by tracking scope, schedules, and budgets in coordination with Leidos' Project Management Office.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering (Civil Engineering preferred).
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in electric utility transmission system design; or 8 years with a Master's degree.
  • Proficiency in PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE.
  • A proven collaborator who can also excel independently.
  • Exceptional communicator skilled in managing client relationships.
  • Strong business acumen with an understanding of essential project performance metrics.
  • Physical presence in a Leidos or client office may be necessary, with occasional travel required.
  • A passion for staff development through mentoring and coaching.
  • Desired Qualifications

  • 2+ years of staff supervisory experience.
  • M.S. degree in Structural Engineering.
  • Familiarity with TOWER software.
  • Certification as an EIT or PE.
  • Experience with LPILE or FAD, Mathcad, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and GIS is a plus.
  • Work Location : Chicago (IL) or Detroit (MI) for hybrid roles, or fully remote in Indianapolis (IN) or Columbus (OH).

    Compensation Range : Pay ranges from $89,700.00 to $162,150.00, based on experience and qualifications.
