Financial Specialist I

The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) is seeking a Financial Specialist I to be a part of one of the most highly regarded park systems in the country. Under the supervision of Financial Specialist II, this position plays a vital role in ensuring the timely and accurate processing of vendor purchase order (PO) and Non-PO invoices for payments in FOCUS in accordance with county financial policies, procedures, and PTB 12-1009. Reviews invoices for accuracy, verifies coding, and ensures required documentation and approvals are in place. Research and resolve discrepancies related to invoices, purchase orders, or vendor statements in coordination with internal and external staff. Communicate with site and program staff to confirm goods and services received. Prepare and maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation for audit and reporting purposes. Assist with monthly and year-end close activities, including accruals and reconciliations.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following : Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting; or a bachelor's degree in business administration or related field that has been supplemented by at least 6 credit hours of basic accounting principles and concepts. BRIDGE CLASS EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS : Four years of increasingly complex technical administrative experience in the assigned functional area, comparable to experience at the Administrative Assistant IV, or higher, level.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Duties are generally sedentary and performed in a normal office environment. Inventory management support requires driving, bending, kneeling and walking with the ability to traverse unimproved natural terrain and ability to climb steps. Driving to various sites throughout the County, conducting inventories and providing purchasing and accounts payable related training and audits. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
SELECTION PROCEDURE : Panel interview and may include exercise.
