The construction inspector will provide full-time, on-site inspection and documentation of MEP construction activities for a specific project. This role focuses on verifying installation quality, code compliance, system functionality, and adherence to approved plans and specifications. You will interact with contractors, engineers, and project owners to keep the work aligned with requirements and address issues in the field.
Tasks may include :
- Inspect installation and testing of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Review work for compliance with plans, specifications, codes and quality requirements.
- Observe HVAC systems, ductwork, piping, electrical equipment, lighting, grounding, and controls.
- Inspect plumbing and gas installations, water / wastewater piping, fixtures, supports, and testing.
- Monitor electrical distribution, conduit routing, wiring methods, panels, equipment mounting, and labeling.
- Verify that mechanical systems meet airflow, pressure, insulation, and equipment installation standards.
- Document daily activities with photos, reports, test results, and non-conformance notifications.
- Identify deficiencies and communicate them promptly to contractors and the project manager.
- Review submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs when needed to confirm field compliance.
- Support commissioning activities by tracking punchlist items and verifying corrections.
Requirements
5+ years of MEP inspection experience in commercial, industrial, or institutional construction.Solid understanding of MEP construction methods, codes, and QA / QC processes.Ability to read and interpret plans, diagrams, schedules, and specifications.Strong documentation habits : daily reports, photos, tracking logs.Clear communication with contractors, engineers, and owners.Valid driver’s license and ability to work full-time on-site.Licensed Journeyman or Master (Mechanical, Electrical, or Plumbing) preferred but not required.Experience with commissioning and system start-up verification.Familiarity with local Midland / West Texas construction practices.Experience inspecting large or complex MEP installations.Full-time, site-based.Some off-hours, weekend, or shift work depending on contractor operations.Benefits
