Job Summary

The Hematologic Malignancy and Cellular Therapy (HMCT) Advanced Practice Provider works in collaboration with attending physicians, collects and documents data, obtains / orders diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, laboratory studies and professional consultations to provide direct patient care services for HMCT inpatient services.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis.
• Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform through physical examinations.
• Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, treatment toxicities.
• Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high-level clinical judgement including prescribing appropriate medications.
• Chart patient progress maintaining detailed and accurate health records
• Participate in clinical research projects and understand the importance of documentation of toxicities and data collection.
• Communication among multi-disciplinary teams to support patient care.
• Collaborating, supporting and building strong relationships with supervising, back-up supervising physicians, APP colleagues, and team members.
• Participate in education of patients, family members, new staff, students and other learners.
• Perform procedures including :
• Bone Marrow Biopsies
• Lumbar Puncture with and without intrathecal chemotherapy
• Ommaya Access with and without intrathecal chemotherapy
• Punch skin biopsy with simple suture.
• See scheduled and unscheduled patients.
• Attend program required meetings.
• Maintain up to date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME.
• Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies.
• Maintain institutional requirements for compliance.

Job Eligibility Requirements

Education

NP : Graduate of MSN or DNP accredited Nurse Practitioner Program

PA : Graduate of ARC accredited Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree Physician Assistant Program

Certification

NP : Any NP certification that treats adults (FNP, ANP, AGNP, AGACNP, etc.)

PA : PA-C

Both : BLS

ACLS preferred

Licensure

NP : Must have unrestricted RN licensure issued by or recognized by the NCBON with authorization to practice as a NP

PA : Must have unrestricted medical license issued by NCMB with authorization to practice as PA

Both : DEA independent license with prescriptive authority

Experience

APP experience is preferred, ideally in Hematology / Oncology, but recent or new graduates are welcome to apply.

Job Hours

Monday through Sunday includes Weekends and Holidays 12- hour day shift 7A-7P. 13 shifts per 28 days
