American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) role in an acute care setting, requiring a TX or compact license and at least 2 years of PACU experience.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

Work in a PACU within an acute care hospital setting

Caring for both adult and pediatric post-surgical patients in Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery

Typical cases include cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repairs, lumpectomy, mastectomy, colectomy, hysterectomy, T&A, BMT, thyroidectomy, parathyroidectomy, bunionectomy, EGD, colonoscopy, and occasional ortho cases

PACU has 7 bays and 8 stepdown beds, typically using 5 for stepdown

Phase 1 nurse-to-patient ratios are 1 : 2 and 1 : 1 for peds; Phase 2 varies

Uses MEDHOST - Enterprise, SIS, and Meditech EMRs

10-hour day shifts (0700-1700 or 0730-1730), with orientation week on 8-hour shifts

Call required 10-12 days per month (self-scheduled), with one full weekend call per month and 30-minute response time

Holiday coverage required for call shifts only

Required to float between College Station and Bryan campuses (16 minutes apart)

Responsibilities include recovering patients from anesthesia, monitoring for complications, and supporting both Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery

Navy blue scrubs required; scrubs are not provided

Charge nurse on unit; no nurse aides

Hospitalist or intensivist on-site 24 / 7, as well as RT and pharmacy support

May be asked to serve as a preceptor as needed

Must be willing to float between designated campuses

First week orientation provided with floor-specific training

Callouts are discouraged and may lead to termination

Active TX or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted

Minimum of 2 years recent PACU experience required

Current certifications : BLS, ACLS, and PALS (pending certifications not accepted)

Must pass Basic Dysrhythmia test (83%) before contract signing, with up to three attempts allowed

Experience with both adult and pediatric PACU populations preferred

Ability to work with telemetry and vents (rarely used)

References : one supervisor from the past 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, with dates and rehire eligibility

Copy of driver’s license required for consideration

Candidates may not have worked directly for CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity in the past year, except through external agencies
