American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) role in an acute care setting, requiring a TX or compact license and at least 2 years of PACU experience.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in a PACU within an acute care hospital settingCaring for both adult and pediatric post-surgical patients in Phase 1 and Phase 2 recoveryTypical cases include cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repairs, lumpectomy, mastectomy, colectomy, hysterectomy, T&A, BMT, thyroidectomy, parathyroidectomy, bunionectomy, EGD, colonoscopy, and occasional ortho casesPACU has 7 bays and 8 stepdown beds, typically using 5 for stepdownPhase 1 nurse-to-patient ratios are 1 : 2 and 1 : 1 for peds; Phase 2 variesUses MEDHOST - Enterprise, SIS, and Meditech EMRs10-hour day shifts (0700-1700 or 0730-1730), with orientation week on 8-hour shiftsCall required 10-12 days per month (self-scheduled), with one full weekend call per month and 30-minute response timeHoliday coverage required for call shifts onlyRequired to float between College Station and Bryan campuses (16 minutes apart)Responsibilities include recovering patients from anesthesia, monitoring for complications, and supporting both Phase 1 and Phase 2 recoveryNavy blue scrubs required; scrubs are not providedCharge nurse on unit; no nurse aidesHospitalist or intensivist on-site 24 / 7, as well as RT and pharmacy supportMay be asked to serve as a preceptor as neededMust be willing to float between designated campusesFirst week orientation provided with floor-specific trainingCallouts are discouraged and may lead to termination\n \n Requirements\n
Active TX or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not acceptedMinimum of 2 years recent PACU experience requiredCurrent certifications : BLS, ACLS, and PALS (pending certifications not accepted)Must pass Basic Dysrhythmia test (83%) before contract signing, with up to three attempts allowedExperience with both adult and pediatric PACU populations preferredAbility to work with telemetry and vents (rarely used)References : one supervisor from the past 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, with dates and rehire eligibilityCopy of driver’s license required for considerationCandidates may not have worked directly for CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity in the past year, except through external agencies\n Benefits\n
