Mill Operator – Flour Line

Job Summary :

The primary function of this role is to operate and monitor the flour milling line for production of flour that directly serves our customer requirements. The Mill Operator will ensure that milling, blending, and packaging activities run accurately and efficiently, that ingredient inclusions and finished flour meet specification, and that all safety, quality, and housekeeping standards are maintained.

Responsibilities

Milling & Blending Operations :

  • Operate and monitor milling equipment : grinders, break rolls, reduction rolls, sifters, product conveying and packaging
  • Ensure proper set-up of equipment and machine settings (feed rate, grind size, moisture / conditioning) to meet flour specification.
  • Conduct sampling and analysis of finished flour and incoming grain, and adjust processes as required to maintain quality and yield.
  • Communicate with the Production Lead and other team members to coordinate tasks, shift hand-offs, and ensure consistency.
  • Ensure all milling and blending paperwork / logs are completed timely and accurately (production data, maintenance logs, quality checks).
  • Operate forklifts to transport, stack, and organize products, ensuring safe and efficient material handling.

Warehouse / Material & Ingredient Handling :

  • Assist in daily scheduled production in all areas, ensuring the processing work is performed in an efficient & productive manner :
  • Label products according to standards (Product Number, Product Name, Lot, Date, and other requirements)

  • Ensure correct ingredients are being used during production, monitoring inventory on hand
  • Coordinate excess ingredients that remain after production runs with the Warehouse Manager for inventory reporting
  • Safety :

  • Adhere to all aspects of the Company’s Safety Program, including lockout / tagout, machine guarding, forklift operations, PPE requirements, dust control, confined space and elevated work when required.
  • Proactively identify and report possible safety hazards or near-misses to the Milling Lead or Plant Manager.
  • Participate in required safety training, audits, and comply with food-safety and hygiene programs.
  • Quality :

  • Adhere to Quality Assurance and food safety standards (e.g., GMPs, HACCP, customer specs).
  • Monitor storage conditions of flour and other materials to maintain quality.
  • Quickly recognize and report any deviation from specifications, process irregularities, or rejects to supervisor to minimize waste and downtime.
  • General / Other :

  • Perform project work or other duties outside this job description, as specified by the Production Lead or Plant Manager.
  • Demonstrate teamwork, cooperate with peers, and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Required to adhere to the Company’s policies on Safety, Hygiene, and Good Housekeeping :
  • Take reasonable care for personal and others’ health and safety.

  • Cooperate with the company’s duties or requirements.
  • Report hazards to immediate manager.
  • Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Hold a valid driver’s license
  • Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships
  • Ability to :
  • Lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

  • Stand for extended periods of time
  • Work in dust
  • Work in confined spaces
  • Work in extreme temperatures
  • Obtain Forklift Certification within 30 Days of employment (Training provided)

The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee will occasionally lift and / or move up to 75 pounds. All vision abilities are required to encompass close-up work. On occasion, employee must be able to tolerate and endure extended seasonal hours and maintain alertness to meet deadlines.
