Description

This position is responsible for providing healthcare to incarcerated individuals, including performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating illnesses, managing chronic conditions, prescribing medication, and coordinating with other healthcare professionals within the correctional facility, all while adhering to strict security protocols and regulations within the correctional environment. This is a 1099 Contractor Position that is a minimum of 13 weeks, and eligible for renewal. Physicians shall work in-person, full-time, Monday-Friday, 8 hours daily. We are seeking a qualified candidate who will provide comprehensive medical care to inmates at the Correctional Facility along with a current medical license and preferably one year of experience in emergency or critical care nursing to join their team. This role will in-person be in the US Virgin Islands in either St. Croix or St. Thomas. The pay range for this position is $101-$105 / hour and includes a monthly stipend that will be discussed.

Physicians shall be able to perform the following :

• Interviews and examines inmate patients upon arrival at the facility as part of the intake assessment screenings.
• Performs annual examinations to identify new diagnoses and prescribe treatment.
• Supervise clinical staff, as needed.
• Provides continuation of medical care for inmate patients with chronic medical conditions.
• Performs routine procedures such as electrocardiogram (EKG), IM / SC injections, foley insertion, venipuncture, immunizations, wound repair, and wound care.
• Instructs and counsels inmate patients in laboratory, radiology, emergency room and specialist evaluations and results.
• Educates inmate patients about disease pathophysiology and therapy under a physician's supervision.
• Addresses inmate patients' acute medical concerns through the sick call process.
• Provides assistance to the health services team with updating and maintaining inmate patients' medical records.
• Provides assistance with ensuring the workspace remains organized and clean.
