Finance Manager / Analyst for a Contract Research Organization (CRO)

Reports to CEO and works closely with Director of Client Operations

Position Summary

The Finance Manager / Analyst will play a key role in supporting financial planning, reporting, and analysis for our growing global operations. This role is responsible for providing insights into project profitability, operational efficiency, and financial performance to help drive strategic decision-making across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and long-range financial plans.
  • Perform detailed financial analysis of clinical trial projects, including revenue recognition, cost tracking, and margin analysis.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc financial reports for management and business partners.
  • Conduct variance analysis to monitor performance against budget and forecast, providing clear explanations of drivers.
  • Collaborate with project managers and operational teams to monitor project financial health and ensure accurate reporting.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to evaluate business performance and support strategic initiatives.
  • Assist with client proposal development and pricing support, ensuring alignment with financial targets.
  • Support audit and compliance activities, ensuring adherence to corporate policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the development of more efficient financial systems and tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration
  • 3-5 years of experience in financial analysis, in life sciences, CRO, biotech, or professional services industry.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Quickbooks, and financial modelling.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, NetSuite) and business intelligence tools a plus.
  • Knowledge of revenue recognition standards, preferably ASC 606.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
