Job Summary :

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Coordinator is responsible for supporting the development, execution, and continual improvement of the organization's EHS and sustainability programs, policies, and procedures that drive EHS Excellence. This role is responsible for supporting the EHS leader (Specialist / Manager) in creating a productive, sustainable, healthy and accident-free workplace by promoting EHS Excellence and coordinating with managers, supervisors and employees to drive a culture that embraces EHS and sustainability principles, leading industry practices, and governing regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Manage the data collection and reporting systems to provide charts, graphs and other reporting to reinforce and drive injury prevention initiatives, environmental compliance activities to support EHS Excellence.
  • Develop and conduct training programs and toolbox talk topics that educate stakeholders on EHS policies, procedures, and company standards to manage risk related to EHS processes and metrics.
  • Assist with the development and execution of programs, policies, and procedures that address occupational injury and illness prevention, risk management, compliance assurance, and environmental protection based on governing regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.), best practice standards (ANSI, NFPA, ACGIH, etc.), data analysis and trend tracking.
  • Assist in compliance with EHS regulations and requirements including monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting.
  • Provide EHS support to stakeholders including, but not limited to, incident investigations, corrective action follow-up and verification, and assist with inspections, assessments, and interpretation of EHS standard best practices.
  • Develop a communication plan that includes key messages and creative delivery methods to educate and raise awareness of EHS programs, polices, and procedures and their impact and relationship to the business and operations.
  • Promote active participation and ownership in the implementation of environmental, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, and related regulatory and educational programs.
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain various EHS plans including any associated activities such as establishing response / pollution prevention teams, conducting drills, and operational preparedness.
  • Assist with the coordination of waste management (non-hazardous, hazardous (RCRA), universal, etc.) activities including on-site waste accumulation and storage, inspections, training, recordkeeping / reporting, shipping, and disposal with licensed and reputable waste management vendors in accordance with all local, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Participate as Safety Committee member.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with local leadership group, including supervisors, managers, directors, and senior site leaders to drive a culture of EHS Excellence

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • A working knowledge of the application of EHS standards and regulations (EPA, OSHA, NFPA, etc.).
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Accurately gathers and analyzes information and data to drive and improve performance; Excellent problem-solving skills in team environment; Excellent reasoning skills when dealing with emotional topics and situations.

  • A working knowledge of various computer software and word processing programs such as spreadsheets and databases to include, but not limited to, Microsoft Office.
  • Education and / or Experience :

    This is an entry-level position for which an Associates degree in safety sciences, environmental sciences, engineering or emergency management or 2-5 years of working experience in a manufacturing environment is desirable.

Other physical requirements include :

  • Ability to regularly lift and / or move up to 40#'s without assistance.
  • Ability to work from various squatting, kneeling or bending positions.
  • Ability to work with arms above head.
  • Ability to work from ladders or scaffolding.
  • Ability to stand or walk within the manufacturing environment for eight hours per day (minus specified breaks).
  • Ability to safely use specified hand, air, power tools, and machinery.
  • Ability to operate and understand the operation of all protective safety equipment in the area.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Hand-Eye coordination.
  • Required to handle and dispose of hazardous waste.
  • Ability to work in 105-degree heat for excess of eight (8) hours per day.
  • Ability to work in noisy and dusty conditions.
