Job Purpose Summary :
- CSC Sugar is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Lab Technician Intern to support our food-grade laboratory operations. This internship offers hands-on experience in microbiological and chemical testing, equipment validation, and routine lab maintenance, with exposure to real-world applications in the food processing industry.
- This position will also be responsible for special projects as assigned (Quality / Food Safety Related)
Essential Responsibilities :
Perform of microbiological and chemical testing of finished products, raw materials and associated items as required.Maintain laboratory equipment and calibration program.Visually inspect and sample plant equipment for microbiological and ATP sanitation standardsInput quality testing data for each load and verify resultsPull aseptic samples for microbiological examination by QA ManagerEnsure all paperwork is filled out in a clear, legible and accurate format.Ensure all required information is documented in accordance with SOP's.Follow all required work safe practices. This would include wearing of all required PPE in designated areas, confined space safety, safe chemical handling, fall restraints, etc.Participate in quarterly split sample testing for all personnel authorized at the facilityMaintain lab supply inventoryMaintain the laboratory in a clean, audit ready state at all times.Follow Good Manufacturing Practices.Perform document scanning and archiving as required.Cover other quality functions as required.Participate in validation activities for new UV lights, washbays, and microbiology lab equipment.Conduct routine lab calibrations and assist with day-to-day lab tasks.Collect samples from production lines while adhering to food safety protocols.Maintain accurate records and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).Support continuous improvement and quality assurance initiatives.Travel : No travel required
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Currently enrolled in a college program, preferably studying Food Science, Biology, Chemistry , or a related field.Associates Degree or In Progress Biology / Food Safety Degree or Related DegreeExperience :
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise procedures.Comfortable working in a food-grade lab and around production equipment.Able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.Excellent communication and organizational skills.Experience in Food Manufacturing with Food Science I Technology or equivalent experience preferredPrevious experience in food manufacturing environment with laboratory testing and sampling experience PreferredExperience in microbiology, GMP's, chemistry, design, sanitation and quality systems preferredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Must be adaptable and flexibleMust be organized and analyticalExcellent communication skillsAbility to work independentlyExcellent recordkeeping in documentation skillsBasic understanding of microbiological and chemistry testing proceduresBasic understanding of laboratory testing equipmentNonessential Qualifications :

Flexible start time, with shifts typically beginning around 4 : 00 PM.PPE and safety training will be provided.This is a paid internship with potential for future opportunities within CSC Sugar.Work Hours : 20 hours per week maximum
