Job description

Building the people that build the world.

With platforms in HVAC and Detection and Measurement, SPX Technologies builds innovative solutions that enable a safer, more efficient, sustainable world. Through our RiSE talent development framework, we Reach, Identify, Strengthen, and Engage our employees to support them in their continued development. We're a global company of problem solvers, collaborators, and innovators, and our businesses build solutions that impact the world.

As part of HVAC Cooling, SPX Cooling Technologies is a leader in high quality industrial HVAC equipment used to cool large facilities like hospitals, data centers, and power plants. With cooling towers, fans, and refrigeration units, companies rely on brands like Marley, Recold, and SGS to provide comfort and mission critical and industrial cooling solutions.

How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Senior Product Development Engineer, you will lead the design and development of new coil products-including evaporative, adiabatic, hybrid fluid coolers, condensers, and evaporators-while supporting R&D initiatives and value engineering efforts. The incumbent will create sound, manufacturable design solutions using 3D modeling and thermal-fluid system expertise, coordinate cross-functional efforts with sourcing and manufacturing, and ensure compliance with industry codes and performance standards. This role plays a key part in driving product innovation, standardization, and cost efficiency while ensuring on-time project delivery and continuous product improvement.

This role encourages innovation and continuously improves efficiency of technical support, monitors advances of technology and competition, and supports global and acquisition-related technical issues in areas of expertise.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  1. Lead Technical Design & Product Line Ownership
  • Serve as a technical authority for heat transfer product design, establishing and maintaining design standards and best practices.
  • Perform advanced thermal-fluid, structural, and manufacturability analyses; act as a final approver for complex engineering decisions.
  • Develop and release complete engineering packages, ensuring compliance with ASME, UL, IIAR, and AHRI codes.
  • Drive innovation by leading feasibility studies, concept development, and early-phase technology evaluations.

  1. Oversee Product Development, Portfolio Execution & Engineering Planning
  • Lead multiple NPD and VA/VE programs from concept through launch, ensuring schedule, budget, and quality adherence.
  • Forecast and plan engineering resources for assigned product lines; align work plans with business priorities.
  • Develop engineering KPIs and report progress related to quality, cycle time, and productivity.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction, standardization, and design optimization across product families.

  1. Provide Cross-Functional Leadership & Stakeholder Alignment
  • Lead design reviews and act as the primary engineering interface with Manufacturing, Sourcing, Product Management, Sales, and Customer Support.
  • Communicate technical risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations to stakeholders to support high-quality decision making.
  • Support vendor selection through technical bid evaluations and oversee successful integration of new components and technologies.
  • Represent Engineering in customer discussions, escalations, and strategic supplier engagements when expert guidance is required.

  1. Mentor, Develop, & Guide Engineer Teams Driving Continuous Improvement
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers, providing technical coaching and guidance on analysis methods, codes, and design best practices.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives, including root-cause investigations, standardization efforts, and process enhancements.
  • Oversee engineering documentation, configuration control, and quality of technical outputs for assigned programs.
  • Champion the development and maintenance of design tools, templates, and engineering rule libraries.
