As a
- Police Recruit
- , you will attend a
- California POST-certified police academy
- , gaining hands-on training in :
- Laws of arrest, search & seizure
- Crime prevention & community policing
- First aid & emergency response
- Physical conditioning & self-defense
- Firearms and tactical skills
Upon graduation, you’ll be sworn in as a
- Police Officer
- and assume full law enforcement duties.

- Minimum Qualifications
- Required :
- 60 college semester units
- Age 21+ at time of appointment
- Valid California driver’s license with good record
- U.S. work authorization
- Meet POST standards for character, background, physical and psychological fitness
- Willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays

- Submit completed application + supplemental questionnaire
- Take
- POST PELLETB (written exam)
- and
- Physical Abilities Test (PAT)
- Both administered on the same day at no cost (City of Berkeley test dates :

- Waiver options available :
- Written exam : POST T-score of 43+ within past year
- PAT : POST WSTB certificate (score 325+ within past year)
- Finalists undergo background investigation, Live Scan, and medical / psychological exams
