Senior Software Engineer – JAVA – Java / AWS

We are seeking a Senior Java Engineer to support a large-scale, cloud-native platform within a well-established organization operating at the intersection of technology and digital media. This is a 6-month contract role based in New York City, working in a structured hybrid environment. The ideal candidate is a senior-level backend engineer with deep Java and AWS experience who is comfortable building and maintaining scalable, production-grade systems. U.S. work authorization is required. No visa sponsorship is available at this time.

Job Title : Senior Java Engineer (Contract)

Location :  New York City (Hybrid) Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Java within a modern cloud-based architecture
• Build and maintain RESTful web services, supporting high-availability, distributed systems
• Develop cloud-native applications leveraging core AWS services and containerized environments
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and platform teams to support system scalability, performance, and reliability
• Contribute to infrastructure automation efforts using infrastructure-as-code tools
• Participate in CI / CD workflows to support reliable and repeatable deployments
• Support database design, query optimization, and performance tuning efforts for enterprise applications Required Skills & Experience
• Strong backend engineering experience with Java in production environments
• Experience building and supporting applications on AWS
• Hands-on experience developing RESTful APIs and backend services
• Working knowledge of Spring / Spring Boot frameworks
• Experience with containerized applications (Docker; ECS or similar)
• Familiarity with infrastructure automation and IaC tools (Terraform preferred)
• Experience supporting cloud-native, distributed systems
• Solid understanding of object-oriented design and scalable application architecture
• Comfort working with relational databases, including query optimization
• Experience with CI / CD pipelines and modern deployment workflows
• Proficiency using Git-based version control in team environments Compensation
• Hourly Rate : $ / hour
• Contract Length : 6 months Additional Information
• Hybrid schedule : 3 days onsite per week in NYC
• Every third week is fully remote
• During onsite weeks, two in-office days are fixed and the third onsite day is flexible and chosen by the engineer
