Job description

Join us to apply for the Senior Physical Security Engineer position in Data Center Design Engineering at Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, including government data centers and servers, as well as storage and networking solutions to ensure uninterrupted access to innovation for our customers. You will be part of a diverse team of design engineers and security experts, collaborating across AWS to uphold high safety and security standards while providing scalable capacity at minimal costs.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead the design of physical security measures (including cameras, access control, intrusion detection, and fencing) for AWS GovCloud data center projects.
  • Work with AWS industrial security teams to craft design standards, assess costs, risks, and benefits, and ensure compliance with the intelligence community.
  • Stay updated on the latest innovations in physical security technologies and best practices for sensitive facility designs.
  • Develop and maintain a Physical Security Basis of Design, including prototype designs and template specifications.
  • Generate security design scope of work for Requests for Proposals.
  • Review and guide the efforts of physical security engineering consultants.
  • Manage multiple fast-paced projects concurrently.
  • Engage in travel for site evaluations, internal design meetings, and construction reviews, with expected travel not exceeding 25%.

Basic Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Over 10 years of experience in physical security design within a regulated industry.
  • At least 3 years of physical security design experience specifically in data centers or other mission-critical environments.
  • 5+ years of SCIF (Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility) physical security design experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Certification under Intelligence Community Directive (ICD) 705.
  • Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification.
  • Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) certification.
  • Proficiency in managing vendors and consultants.
  • Alignment with Amazon's leadership principles for this role.
  • Demonstrated functional and technical depth relevant to this position.

    Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across various U.S. geographic markets. The base salary for this role ranges from $128,600 to $212,800 annually, based on location and experience.
