As a Design engineer at Plantd, you will work directly with the leadership team to build the machines and systems that will disrupt the traditional construction industry. You will design, fabricate, test, and iterate through current and next-generation technologies that will enable full-scale production of modern, carbon-negative building materials, bringing Plantds vision of sustainable building materials into reality.
Day-to-day you will work at our vertically integrated space designing machines and automated production lines. You will partner with leadership and peers to develop requirements at the system level and will own the creation of CAD models, engineering drawings, and structural analyses for your projects.
Construction or industry experience is not required, we look for smart, motivated, collaborative engineers who love solving problems and want to make an impact on the world.
Responsibilities
Develop the most efficient carbon-sequestering machines to fix how the world builds things
Understand fundamentals to make sure that youre fixing things that matter
Design, build and test at a rapid pace so we can move fast
Work with other world-class engineers to integrate your designs into the most efficient machines possible
Adapt to fast-changing inputs, data, specifications, and requirements
Document designs in requirements documentation, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, analyses, specifications, and bill of materials so that we can keep track of all the things youre fixing
Create detailed component and assembly drawings incorporating an understanding of GD&T and tolerance stack-ups to make sure you dont make more problems than you fix

Desired Skills and Experience
Proficient in the use of first-order calculations for system sizing
Expertise in testing and infrastructure development
Experience communicating engineering requirements and drawings to production technicians or machine shops
Hands-on fabrication experience : Welding, CNC milling and lathe, plasma cutting, soldering, and wiring
Additional Requirements
Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed
Must be willing to work on-site in Oxford, NC
