We are looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Clerk to join our team on a contract basis in Los Angeles, California. This seasonal role is an excellent opportunity to contribute to payroll operations for a high-volume workforce during the holiday season. You will play a vital role in ensuring payroll accuracy, compliance, and timely resolution of inquiries for over 4,000 employees.

Responsibilities :

  • Complete payroll onboarding processes, including verifying direct deposit details, assigning pay classifications, and ensuring compliance with local tax codes.
  • Monitor employee clock-ins and address missing time entries with managers before payroll deadlines.
  • Conduct daily reviews of time and attendance records to identify and resolve exceptions, including retroactive adjustments.
  • Perform audits of payroll calculations, reconcile tax ceilings, and ensure seasonal employee payroll data is accurate and balanced.
  • Manage payroll-related inquiries through a ticketing system, providing timely resolutions or routing to the appropriate department.
  • Administer garnishments, verifying accuracy for initial deductions and compliance with regulations.
  • Process terminations, ensuring final pay calculations include statutory leave payouts and meet state requirements.
  • Facilitate large-scale employee transfers, updating leave balances, tenure, and eligibility for benefits.
  • Generate weekly reports on payroll trends and exceptions, recommending solutions to prevent recurring issues.
  • Assist with quarter-end payroll data reconciliations by preparing clean files for the core payroll team.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in high-volume payroll operations.
  • Knowledge of multi-state wage and hour laws, including statutory sick leave, bereavement accruals, garnishments, and final pay regulations.
  • Proficiency in using ADP Payroll systems and SmartCompliance.
  • Strong skills in processing full-cycle payroll for teams ranging from 101-500 employees.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including proficiency with lookups, pivot tables, and basic macros.
  • Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills for resolving payroll inquiries.
  • Familiarity with payroll compliance and statutory requirements.
