About the Role :

Superior Metals Manufacturing is on the lookout for a dedicated and detail-oriented Quality Assurance Engineer to enhance our team. This pivotal role supports our commitment to manufacturing excellence and customer satisfaction. Collaborating with various internal departments, suppliers, and customer representatives, you will ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements. You will champion our Business Management System (BMS) and Advanced Quality System (AQS), driving continuous improvement initiatives and fostering a culture of quality within the organization.

Location : Chittenango, NY (On-site)

Employment Type : Full-Time

Salary : $80,000 - $100,000, determined based on your knowledge, skills, and experience.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Act as the primary quality assurance contact for assigned customers, ensuring proactive communication and resolution of any quality-related issues.
  • Lead and coordinate technical quality efforts across engineering, manufacturing, and purchasing teams to exceed customer expectations.
  • Conduct and support customer product, system, and qualification audits, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
  • Review and provide insights on customer contracts, specifications, purchase orders, and technical documentation.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA) plans to address nonconformances and prevent recurrence.
  • Participate actively in risk assessments, process improvement initiatives, and root cause analysis activities.
  • Promote continuous improvement through the application of lean methodologies, quality training, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Stay current with industry standards and advancements in quality systems and analytical tools.
  • Support internal and external audits, including AS9100, NADCAP, ISO17025, and A2LA.
  • Contribute to tracking internal quality metrics and reporting progress against goals.
  • Assist in developing operational training structures; ensure compliance and that all employees complete required training in quality standards and procedures.
  • Provide insights for quote reviews, inspection planning, and the development of shop floor instructions.
  • Be available to support operations outside of standard business hours, as needed.

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a quality engineering or quality systems role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of quality standards and frameworks, including AS9100, NADCAP, ISO17025, and A2LA.
  • Experience with quality tools and methodologies such as root cause analysis, FMEA, 5 Whys, Pareto analysis, and control plans.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to interpret complex technical documents and specifications.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration across departments and with external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with ERP and quality management systems.
  • Ability to work on-site at our Chittenango, NY facility and accommodate occasional extended hours based on operational needs.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • 3-5 years of experience in the aerospace, investment casting, or metal manufacturing industry.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or Theory of Constraints (TOC) principles.
  • Experience with contract review, inspection planning, and regulatory compliance in a customer-facing role.
  • ASQ certification (CQE, CQA, or similar) is a strong plus.
  • Key Relationships :

  • Collaborate with the Quality Manager, Lab Manager, Sales Manager, Process Engineers, and Manufacturing Leaders.
  • Represent quality interests in customer interactions and internal initiatives.
