We have an exciting opportunity for a Spacesuit Engineering Technologist to join the team with JETS II teammate company, Aerodyne Industries.
The Spacesuit Engineering Technologist will :
Provide technical support throughout the lifecycle of EVA spacesuit development, manufacturing, and testing in support of NASA's Advanced Suit Laboratory and Advanced Suit Design Lab.
Design, fabricate, assemble, and support manned / unmanned testing of prototype and existing spacesuit assemblies.
Develop and test innovative components, support items, and test articles for advanced exploration suits.
Prepare and review procedures for suit maintenance, repair, testing, and fabrication.
Support engineers with concept development, prototyping, testing, and evaluations of hardware and soft goods.
Apply fabrication techniques (machining, composites, sewing, 3D printing, etc.) to build components and test articles.
Coordinate test and fabrication tasks with NASA / contractor engineers and lab personnel.
Develop and review test procedures, conduct tests, and assist in generating test reports.
Support real-time test operations including suit donning / doffing and pressurization in various environments (1g, ARGOS / AXES, NBL, rock yard, etc.).
Create CAD models, engineering drawings, and soft-good patterns to support mockup development.
Assemble and fabricate Class I / IE / II / III / IIIW spacesuit components and support hardware.
Maintain personal training, certifications, and documentation of new designs and processes.
Follow safety policies and maintain a clean, organized lab environment.
Participate in suited subjects and crew training exercises and hardware evaluations.
Interpret technical drawings for assembly / disassembly of suit hardware.
Track and communicate risks and anomalies in hardware, equipment, and procedures.
Work in confined spaces and navigate ladders or elevated platforms.
Perform other duties as assigned.
