Job Summary

This position is for a qualified and highly motivated PhD or MD-PhD in the interdisciplinary translational research program integrated with research, training, and mentoring in translational sciences with pre-clinical and clinical scientists. Reports to Dr. Devendra K. Agrawal, Professor and Head, Department of Translational Research and Senior Vice President for Research & Biotechnology. The fellow will be trained and mentored while working with Dr. Agrawal in maintaining the research laboratories and conducting assigned research projects.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Expertise in cell and molecular biology, histomorphometry, flow cytometry and epigenetic studies. Knowledge in cell culture and pre-clinical testing of molecules is preferable. Ability to design and conduct experiments independently, write manuscripts and fellowship applications, and present findings at national and international meetings. Research areas include arterio-venous fistula, occlusive arterial diseases, plaque instability, and diabetic foot ulcer disease.

Required Qualifications

PhD or MD-PhD in the interdisciplinary research program

Key Responsibilities

• Supplies for research laboratories. Maintains and monitors an inventory / database of supplies, chemicals, etc. for the laboratory of Dr. Agrawal
• Reagent preparation. Prepares, labels, and stores reagents for use in research projects
• Design experiments, perform research, collect and analyze data. Design research questions, conduct experiments, maintain records, and analyze data using appropriate statistical tools
• Actively participate in large animal surgeries with Dr. Agrawal and collaborators
• Prepare data for submitting reports to intramural and extramural funding agencies
• Assist Dr. Agrawal by preparing figures and diagrams with descriptions of methods and results for grant proposals
• Write original research articles and critical reviews for peer-reviewed journals
• Write and submit grant proposals to secure funding
• Collaborate with other research personnel, including health science students, in Dr. Agrawal's laboratory
• General laboratory maintenance and safety; oversee regular cleaning of the laboratory
• Use and maintenance of laboratory equipment (PCR, Western blotting, tissue sections, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, cell culture, flow cytometry, OCT, ultracentrifuge, and others); maintain equipment and report major issues
• Perform other duties related to research and scholarly activity as assigned

Work Schedule : 5 days a week – 40 hours per week

Expected Pay Scale

Minimum : $64,480.00

Maximum : $64,480.00

Physical Demands

The essential functions may involve lifting up to 25 pounds, frequent keyboard use, sitting, standing, and manual dexterity. Reasonable accommodations may be available.

Describe Work Environment

Laboratory setting with potential exposure to fumes, chemicals, and other typical lab hazards. Occasional outdoor or high-noise conditions may occur.
