The Clinical Exercise Specialist collaborates with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to deliver evidence-based exercise therapy tailored to patient-focused medical goals. Key responsibilities include creating and implementing personalized exercise prescriptions, conducting initial patient assessments, and monitoring patient progress. This role utilizes evidence-based practices and guidelines to determine effective exercise interventions and is actively involved in patient care, education, program development, and quality improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Evaluate patients' exercise therapy needs using standardized assessments and critical thinking. Conduct exercise testing as needed, recognizing and addressing potential medical issues in collaboration with the healthcare team. Ensure patient safety by identifying and intervening in unsafe exercise scenarios while monitoring vital signs and responses.
  • Formulate customized exercise prescriptions based on various factors including age, medical history, and individual requirements. Implement and adjust exercise programs as necessary, participating in ongoing assessments and discharge planning.
  • Provide thorough orientation to the exercise program, educating patients on safety protocols, equipment usage, and important signs to monitor during their exercise journey.
  • Document all aspects of exercise therapy consistently and comply with regulatory standards, enhancing communication with healthcare professionals to ensure cohesive patient care.
  • Assist in meeting applicable regulatory standards, contributing to performance improvement initiatives, and efficiently managing resources to maintain quality and safety in clinical care.
  • Engage in team meetings and continuing education, participating in quality improvement initiatives and acting as a resource for community-based exercise programs.
  • Support the training of exercise physiology students and onboarding of new staff as directed.

Additional Information :

Education Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field
  • Master's degree preferred and completion of a clinical internship is advantageous
  • Licensure / Certification Requirements :

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
  • Clinical Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-CEP) certification required within 12 months of hire or possess a license as a Physical Therapist
  • Experience Requirements :

  • One year of experience in a clinical exercise setting is preferred
  • No minimum clinical experience is required with Master's degree
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with patients, medical staff, and community members
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to function independently, utilizing critical thinking and sound judgment in patient care decisions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and adept keyboarding skills
