We provide an expected salary range of $143,100 to $159,000, depending on experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package.

LOCATION

This position is remote but requires up to 60% travel to support projects in the Mid-Atlantic region. Candidates should reside in this area to adequately respond to client needs and travel requirements. Occasional travel to the Warrendale, PA office and other Constellation locations for in-person collaboration and meetings may also be necessary.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

As a Principal Development Engineer, you will drive the autonomous development of projects focused on Infrastructure Renewal and Building Upgrade & Improvement, emphasizing energy efficiency and sustainability. You will take the lead in identifying and developing impactful energy services and energy asset projects, particularly within the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and Federal sectors. You'll perform technical and financial analyses for energy conservation measures and supply projects, and act as a liaison between sales and project management teams, supporting sales initiatives and establishing productive business relationships.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Evaluate energy-saving opportunities through ASHRAE level I, II & III energy audits and prepare technical proposals outlining potential energy conservation measures.
  • Utilize technical expertise to design preliminary project outlines and estimates regarding cost and expected energy savings.
  • Offer implementation recommendations for energy conservation measures.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to develop and present energy savings proposals to clients.
  • Report periodically to management regarding project status and performance.
  • Coordinate project handoff to project management teams and clearly communicate project scopes and customer expectations.
  • Implement project control processes to meet established objectives for cost, timeline, and quality.
  • Champion safety by actively promoting safe work practices throughout all operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (electrical, mechanical, or related field).
  • At least 8 years of experience in consulting engineering, design-build, or energy services.
  • Proven ability to design and develop complex energy conservation projects through full project lifecycles.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC, building automation, electrical systems, and processes in diverse environments including commercial, industrial, governmental, hospitals, and data centers.
  • Familiar with project commissioning processes.
  • Skilled in developing customer proposals, vendor agreements, and subcontracts.
  • Exceptional technical writing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication abilities, both verbal and written.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Eligible for access to government facilities.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional Engineering (PE) registration, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or LEED Accreditation.
  • Proficiency in load calculations and energy analysis using tools like EnergyPlus, eQuest, and Trane Trace 3D, as well as solar PV evaluation software such as Helioscope.
  • Proficient with design software including AutoCAD.
  • Experience with energy conservation programs for the Federal Government, Super ESPC, and FEMP / IPMVP guidelines.
  • Experience in developing projects involving renewable energy technologies, battery storage systems, and large prime movers like combustion turbines and biomass facilities.
