The University of Arizona College of
Medicine - Tucson (CoM-T) invites inquiries, nominations, and
expressions of interest for the role of Chair, Department of
Urology.
In 2015, Banner Health and the University of
Arizona Colleges of Medicine partnered through an academic
affiliation agreement, establishing a robust academic clinical
partnership, integrating research, education, and patient care
across its academic medical centers in both Tucson and Phoenix.
CoM-T’s stated mission is "to advance the health and wellness of
our community and beyond, in the relentless pursuit of excellence,
through innovation across our tripartite mission - education,
research, and patient care". CoM-T consists of 17 clinical
departments, 5 basic science departments, and 7 centers. In
addition, there are over a dozen related centers that form part of
the University of Arizona’s Health Sciences, a statewide leader in
biomedical research and health professions training that also
include the College of Medicine - Phoenix, and Colleges of Nursing,
Pharmacy, and Public Health
Reporting directly
to the Dean of the University of Arizona’s College of Medicine –
Tucson, the Chair is charged with advancing the academic, clinical,
and research missions of the Department of Urology, serving as a
vital partner in framing the strategic direction for the University
of Arizona’s College of Medicine – Tucson and Banner Health. The
Department of Urology currently includes 5 core faculty members
including 1 PhD researcher, 7 APPs, and 15 residents in its
ACGME-accredited residency programs. The department is actively
engaged in activities across the tripartite mission, coupling
strong academic and clinical initiatives, research, education, and
clinical care, and is considered a vital local and regional leader
in urologic health programs. With outstanding support,
partnerships, and collaborations within both CoM-T and
Banner-University Medicine-Tucson (BUM-T), the next chair will have
the opportunity to boldly advance the department, building on a
strong foundation, taking it to the next level across all its
mission areas, thus impacting the lives of patients in Arizona and
beyond. It is an exciting time as the world-renowned urologic
oncologist, Dr. Dan Theodorescu, was recently named Director of the
Cancer Center at the University of Arizona (the only NCI-designated
comprehensive cancer center in the state).
The
University of Arizona’s College of Medicine – Tucson, seeks a
dynamic, accomplished, nationally recognized academic physician or
physician-scientist to continue the department's growth and
trajectory as a leader in medical education, research, and patient
care and service. The next Chair will be responsible for continuing
to enhance multidisciplinary clinical and research collaborations
across Banner Health and the university.
Applicants must be board-certified in urology, possess outstanding
leadership skills and administrative experience garnered in an
academic medical center setting, and possess a solid track record
of commitment to clinical care, education, service, and research.
