Job Description Summary :

The Senior Grant Writer will execute, strategize, write, edit, and format grant proposals, reports, and other funding deliverables to private and public funders, both independently and in collaboration with program and fundraising staff. This position also provides administrative support to the Grants Department. The Senior Grant Writer reports to the Grants Manager and is a member of the Development Department. This individual may additionally receive direction occasionally from the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Program Officers, Director of Development, and Director of Administration.

Job Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Work closely with the Grants Manager to ensure that all written materials accurately reflect the agency's mission, policies, and programs in a compelling manner.
  • Develop and demonstrate an in-depth understanding of agency-wide activities and programs, including meeting with relevant program staff to regularly gather information.
  • Responsible for writing appropriate and compelling narratives to be incorporated in proposals, grant applications, letters of inquiry, reports, and other documents.
  • Manage RFP, application, report, and renewal deliverables and ensure that Program and Finance staff have the context to complete application requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with program staff to ensure proposals accurately reflect the organization's mission and programs and to gather information needed for deliverables.
  • Maintain and monitor a comprehensive grant calendar, including deadlines for proposals, reports, renewals, and other key deliverables.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Administration to ensure internal stakeholders are informed of grant and reporting responsibilities.
  • Assist in data liaising, collection, reporting, and developing data indicators and benchmarks
  • Adhere to reporting requirements and submit timely, accurate reports to funders.
  • Attend meetings set forth by funders to obtain information about the requirements, process, etc. as necessary.
  • Assist the Grants Manager in capacity building for the department and streamlining grant lifecycle processes.
  • Take the lead in identifying new sources of funding by allocating time to research new public funding prospects.
  • Support the cultivation and stewardship of institutional partnerships.
  • Attend Development Department fundraising events and fundraising meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Description Qualifications :

  • High School Diploma or GED or Equivalent
  • 3+ years relevant experience writing grants and / or proposals.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of proposal submission and fundraising processes.
  • Able to write and edit clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
  • Able to gather data, compile information, prepare reports, and meet deadlines consistently.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities, tasks, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies.
  • Job Description Preferred Qualifications :

  • Working knowledge of Raiser's Edge (or similar database) and prospect research tools
  • Knowledge of fundraising information sources
  • Knowledge of grant lifecycle and public funding cycles
  • Hold a Bachelor's degree and / or equivalent experience
  • Job Description Work Environment :

  • This role is primarily based in an office setting with occasional field visits.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, bend; occasionally lift or carry up to 35 lbs.
  • On occasion walk or drive to different local sites
  • Will necessitate working in busy and loud environments
  • Will be exposed to elements like cold, heat, dust, noise, and odor
  • May need to bend, stoop, twist, and sit throughout the day
