Job Title : Registered Nurse (RN)\n\nReports To : ASC Pre-Op / PACU Manager\n\nGENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES : \n\nUniversity Orthopedics seeking a dynamic, motivated Registered Nurse (RN) to join the group. The RN will provide professional nursing care to patients pre and post op to develop and provide direct nursing care and treatment by assessing the patients' needs, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.\n\nEssential Job Functions : \n
- Consults and coordinates with physicians to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans\n
- Conducts pre- and post-procedure education\n
- Serves as the communication liaison to family and members of the procedure team\n
- Ensures that correct patient and the correct procedure is being performed\n
- Provides basic, bedside care\n
- Prepares and administers (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and records prescribed medications. Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications\n
- Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol\n
- Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms\n
- Prepares operating room for patient / procedure\n
- Monitors patients' physical and emotional well-being throughout the care continuum\n
- Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by physician. Teaches patients and family members how to manage their post-treatment home care needs, self-administration of medication and rehabilitation\n
- Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting\n
- Assists in positioning, responding to comfort / safety of patient\n
- Observes, checks and monitors all equipment used during procedure to confirm they are running smoothly\n
- Inventories all items both pre- and post- surgery\n
- Additional Duties as assigned by the Manager to meet department needs\n\nRequirements and Qualifications : \n
- Must have a Bachelor's degree\n
- Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Rhode Island\n
- Minimum of 2 years' experience as an RN\n
- Must have basic life support certification and ACLS\n
- Must have procedure room experience, pre and post op\n
- Must be able to administer injections, spine / hip\n
- Strong clinical skills, and able to thrive in a fast-paced medical team environment\n
- Familiarity with electronic medical record and electronic scheduling systems\n
- Ability to work flexible hours\n
- Interpersonal skills including excellent communication skills to deal effectively with staff, patients and physicians in a knowledgeable, professional and courteous manner\n
- Participates in professional development activities to keep current with health care trends and practices.\n
- Maintains strictest confidentiality.\n
