Chemical Plant Operator
Position : Onsite, Full Time, Hourly
Location : 586 LA-44 Laplace, Louisiana 70068
We are seeking a motivated Chemical Plant Operator who takes direction from and works with the site Operations Day Support Team, Technical Team and EH&S Team. The Chemical Plant Operator works with the site Maintenance and Reliability Team on troubleshooting issues and implementing Improvement Opportunities. Maintains current and working knowledge of chemical process operations (pumps, distillation, instrumentation, chemical reactions, etc.). Makes suggestions to improve the safety and cost effectiveness of the operation. Performs other work-related duties as assigned including minor maintenance work (changing pressure gauges, cleaning strainers, etc.).
As a Chemical Plant Operator, you will :
- Patrols assigned area in order to monitor equipment and / or process conditions to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures and environmental regulations.
- Shuts down, clears up and places equipment in a safe condition for maintenance work (e.g. locking and tagging of equipment as well as moving and climbing ladders and scaffolding).
- Operates computer keyboard on distributive control systems, plant systems, and electronic controllers in order to monitor and change process variables, troubleshoot problems, correct process upsets, and initiate equipment start-up or shutdown.
- Responds to audible and visual panel alarms and interlocks and troubleshoots causes in order to return process operation to standard condition.
- Effectively writes shift logs and conducts shift turnover to insure the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the plant.
- Serves as emergency response team member in order to provide assistance during plant emergency.
- Communicates regularly with maintenance and / or technical groups. Identifies and records needed maintenance work by entering work orders into a computer system.
- Understands and courtly interprets instrument indications or lab analyses and takes appropriate corrective action.
Qualifications
Minimum of a 2-year Technical / Vocational or associate's degree or higher related to the Chemical Industry is required or a minimum of two (2) years previous chemical plant production / manufacturing or military experience is preferredThis position operates on a 12-hour rotating shift. May also be assigned to an 8-hour straight day shift.Physical requirements
Able to work outside in various weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, etc.)Willing and able to work a rotating shift schedule including holidays and weekends is requiredWilling and able to wear appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) including a respirator, full chemical resistant suit with supplied full-face respirator is required.Willing and able to perform duties and wear bunker gear, SCBAs and other PPE required for ERT Response.Willing and able to lift and move objects that weigh up to 50 lbs. is requiredWilling and able to climb multiple flights of stairs, multiple times per day is requiredWilling and able to work on elevated surfaces climbing open vertical ladders is requiredWilling and able to work in confined spaces is requiredDuPont-Aramids is an equal opportunity employer.
