Description of Work Unit : The Department of Communication Studies at Colorado State University currently teaches more than 400 undergraduate majors, 16 M.A. students, and 20 Ph.D. students. The department houses the CSU Center for Public Deliberation and hosts the Act Human Rights Film Festival. The focus is on how people use messages to generate meanings within and across contexts, cultures, channels, and media. Position Summary

$5,750-$6,000 per section, dependent on CSU teaching experience and / or education. 1 section equals .25 FTE. The Department hires continuing, contract, or adjunct instructors from an applicant pool to teach a variety of courses in three focus areas :

• Relational and Organizational Communication
• Media and Visual Culture
• Rhetoric and Civic Engagement

Course assignments include public speaking, popular culture, public argumentation, group communication, interpersonal communication, nonverbal communication, evaluating contemporary television, critical media studies, evaluating contemporary film, film history, and organizational communication. Candidates with demonstrated specialization in one focus area may teach upper-division courses. A full-time instructor teaches four sections per semester. Appointees at .5 FTE or more are eligible for benefits. Positions are available depending on enrollments / funding.
