Description :
The unit has 3 procedure rooms, with a 4th currently being built and set to be complete in March.
On average, there are 17 cases per day in the Cath Labs and 22-23 including all other areas and procedures.
Common diagnoses and types of patients include Vascular, Neuro, EP, Cardiology, IR, and Catheterization.
In the Cath Lab, procedures involve diagnostic interventions, rotablator, and shockwave therapy.
Diagnostic right heart procedures are done to prepare for structural interventions at other facilities.
In Interventional Radiology, procedures include ports, G tubes, drains, nephrostomies, biliary drains, and common dialysis lines.
Embolizations and coiling are performed less frequently.
EP cases include ablations, device implantation, and temporary pacemakers, with anesthesia present for every EP case.
Procedure nurses will circulate and monitor patients.
They may float to other areas such as CT, Ultrasound, or MRI to assist with procedures.
Recovery nurses will work in a 17-bed post-procedure area.
Bone marrow aspirations, bronchoscopies, and cardioversions are done in the recovery area, thus recovery nurses need to be able to perform conscious sedation.
The charting system used is Epic.
There is a requirement for on-call shifts when not onsite.
The on-call response time for procedure nurses and techs is 30 minutes, while recovery nurses have a 45-minute response time.
Techs are scheduled for four ten-hour shifts.
Moreover, the rotation involves one night of on-call duty per week and every third or fourth weekend.
Employees are expected to take approximately one holiday per year, which is rotated among the staff.
Unit-specific orientation typically lasts 2 weeks, depending on the traveler's experience.
There are ten techs assigned daily to cover Cath Lab and IR, with three techs designated per room.
Mandatory call / standby requirements are in effect, maintaining a structured workflow.
The dress code involves provided scrubs.
The role involves participation in a hospital setting classified as Trauma Level 3.
