Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Project Controls Specialist II to join our team. This role represents the intermediate level in the Project Controls career progression and focuses on the consistent application of project controls principles to ensure accurate cost tracking, scheduling, and reporting. The ideal candidate will have foundational experience in project management support and a solid understanding of project controls methodologies.
The Project Controls Specialist II works under general supervision and performs moderately complex assignments that require sound analytical judgment and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and update project cost forecasts, schedules, and progress reports.
- Analyze cost and schedule variances and prepare recommendations to project management.
- Support the development and implementation of project controls standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, procurement, and finance teams to ensure alignment of project objectives and deliverables.
- Prepare and distribute recurring project controls reports, including earned value analysis and performance metrics.
- Assist in tracking commitments, actual expenditures, and forecasts to ensure projects remain within approved budgets.
- Utilize scheduling and cost management software to update project status, identify variances, and propose corrective actions.
- Review contractor / vendor schedules and cost submissions for accuracy and consistency with contract requirements.
- Participate in project meetings, providing analytical insights and updates on cost and schedule performance.
- Maintain documentation and audit trails for all project controls activities.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university, preferably in Accounting, Finance, Engineering, or Construction Management .Minimum 2 years of experience in project controls, cost engineering, or project accounting.Working knowledge of project controls principles and methodologies.Proficiency with project management tools and financial software , including scheduling systems, cost tracking tools, and spreadsheets.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.Demonstrated ability to collaborate across departments and manage multiple priorities effectively.Preferred Qualifications
Professional certifications such as PMP, CAPM, PMI-SP, AACE-CCC, AACE-PSP, AACE-CEP, or AACE-EVP (or equivalent).Proficiency with software tools such as Primavera P6, MS Project, Business Objects, Passport, Prolog, Visio, Emax, PeopleSoft, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) .Experience in supporting large-scale capital projects or multi-disciplinary project teams.Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to non-technical audiences.Work Environment
This position is fully on-site and requires consistent in-person collaboration with project teams.May involve occasional travel to project or vendor locations.Company Description
