Job Description
The LEG Office provides legal advice and counsel to PAHO’s governing bodies, management, and partner entities. The role supports legal matters, drafts and reviews legal instruments, and represents PAHO in legal proceedings.
Responsibilities
- Prepare draft legal opinions and memoranda in response to queries from PAHO entities.
- Provide legal and policy support to HRM, GSO, PRO, and other offices on administrative matters.
- Draft and review administrative contracts and agreements, including engagement contracts for personnel and procurement contracts.
- Assist in preparing briefs for representation before appeal bodies and administrative tribunals.
- Conduct due diligence and risk assessments of non‑state actors for potential PAHO engagements.
- Perform preliminary review of legal aspects of project proposals and related documents.
- Draft or assist in drafting Technical Cooperation Agreements and other legal documents.
- Support PAHO’s technical cooperation programs and related funds.
- File before national entities to protect intellectual property and commercial rights.
- Analyze international and national legal materials for reports or legal opinions.
- Prepare background materials, reports, and documents as requested.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education : Essential – University degree in law or related field. Desirable – Advanced law degree or admission to practice law in a PAHO Member State.Experience : Essential – Five years of national and international law experience (contracts, torts, mercantile, IP or administrative law). Desirable – Experience in a UN common‑system organization or other international public organization.Languages : Very good knowledge of English or Spanish; working knowledge of the other; Portuguese advantageous.IT Skills : Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, OneDrive, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, Word) and ERP systems.EEO Statement
