Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Experienced Sports Equipment Service Engineer to join our established team. As a key member of our service division, you will be responsible for the installation, servicing, and maintenance of sports and physical education equipment across schools, gyms, and sports facilities throughout the UK. This role involves extensive travel and overnight stays, offering a dynamic, on-the-road career with strong earning potential and comprehensive support.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out planned and reactive servicing and maintenance of sports hall, gymnasium, and PE equipment.
Travel nationwide to client sites, typically staying in hotels or B&Bs from Monday to Thursday each week.
Work safely at height using mobile towers, MEWPs, and other access equipment.
Use hand and power tools to assemble, repair, and adjust equipment to manufacturer and safety standards.
Follow technical instructions with precision and maintain detailed service records.
Exercise initiative in diagnosing faults and implementing effective solutions.
Adhere to health and safety regulations, including risk assessments and site compliance.
Working Pattern
Schedule : Monday to Friday, with regular paid overtime due to travel demands.
Hours : Average 55 hours per week, including travel time (paid).
Travel : 100% willingness to travel required. Expect to be away from home Monday to Thursday weekly.
Work Location : On the road – no fixed office.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary : From £43,000 per year (OTE), based on approx. 55 hours / week at £15 / hour (starting rate for 40-hour week + overtime).
Overtime : Paid at standard rate; travel time to site is included as paid working time.
Company Vehicle : Provided for work use once training is completed (not for private use).
Travel Expenses : Fully covered, including hotel accommodation and meal allowances.
Holiday : 28 days per year (inclusive of bank holidays and Christmas shutdown).
Tool & Boot Allowance : Provided to support your work requirements.
Pension : Company pension scheme available.
Parking : On-site parking at client locations where applicable.
Ideal Candidate
You are a self-motivated, mechanically inclined professional with a strong work ethic and commitment to safety.
Requirements
Valid UK driving licence (essential).
Own vehicle (required initially, as main office location may not allow vehicle take-home at start).
Proven mechanical knowledge and experience in maintenance or engineering.
Ability to work safely at height; familiarity with MEWPs, mobile towers, or similar is advantageous.
Proficient in using hand and power tools.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical guidance.
Willingness to work away from home up to four days per week.
Fluent in English (spoken and written).
Authorised to work in the United Kingdom .
Preferred Qualifications (Training Provided if Needed)
CSCS card (desirable)
IPAF and / or PASMA certification (beneficial but not essential – full training offered)
