Tax Manager – Public Accounting | Remote but must sit in the DMV (Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia) area and willing to travel onsite for quarterly meetings

Our client, a growing public accounting and advisory firm, is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join their Tax Strategies team. This role offers the opportunity to work directly with business owners, executives, and high-net-worth individuals across a variety of industries—providing strategic tax planning, compliance, and advisory services that make a measurable impact.
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in federal, state, and local tax law, experience managing client relationships, and a passion for leading teams in a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.
About the Role
As a Tax Manager, you’ll take ownership of managing a diverse portfolio of clients—ranging from small, emerging businesses to large multinational organizations. You’ll oversee the full tax cycle, mentor staff, and collaborate cross-functionally with other advisory teams to deliver integrated solutions that address clients’ broader financial and operational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and review all aspects of tax engagements, including planning, compliance, and consulting
- Develop trusted client relationships while serving as a strategic advisor on tax and business matters
- Review complex tax returns (corporate, partnership, and individual) and identify opportunities for efficiency or risk mitigation
- Supervise, coach, and develop staff through engagement oversight and hands‑on training
- Coordinate multiple concurrent projects and ensure timely completion of deliverables
- Perform technical research on evolving tax legislation and implement relevant strategies for clients
- Assist clients with federal, state, and local tax audits and respond to inquiries from tax authorities
- Collaborate with colleagues in Audit, Transaction Advisory, and Business Valuation to deliver holistic client service
- Contribute to business development efforts by identifying opportunities to expand relationships or services
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation strongly preferred6–8 years of recent tax experience within public accounting (private or government-only backgrounds will not be considered)Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulationsProven ability to manage multiple client relationships and projects simultaneouslyExcellent analytical, organizational, and communication skillsDemonstrated leadership experience, including mentoring and team developmentStrong attention to detail with the ability to see the “big picture” and provide strategic insightsWho You Are
