Strategic Account Manager - Retail Media

Strategic Account Manager (SAM)

The Strategic Account Manager (SAM) is a senior client partner responsible for bridging high-level strategy and day-to-day campaign execution. The SAM works closely with clients to understand business objectives, develops cross-channel media plans, and ensures that campaigns deliver both performance and brand impact. This role requires strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills, as well as the ability to translate complex data into actionable recommendations for clients.

What You'll Do

  • Lead cross-channel media planning and execution for assigned accounts, ensuring every campaign aligns with client KPIs and category goals.
  • Act as the primary strategic point of contact for clients, fielding questions, providing recommendations, and keeping communication clear and proactive.
  • Translate performance data into sharp, actionable insights and identify growth opportunities within existing accounts.
  • Partner with CX Directors, SMEs, and internal teams to ensure plans are flawlessly activated and optimized.
  • Manage timelines, deliverables, and budgets to maintain consistency and accuracy across campaigns.
  • Contribute to creative briefs and ensure messaging aligns with both audience insights and media strategy.
  • Present performance reviews, quarterly business reviews (QBRs), and optimization plans that move the needle on business results.

When you're doing this job well, clients and internal teams both feel the difference :

  • Campaigns consistently meet or exceed 90% of defined performance KPIs.
  • Clients trust you as a go-to advisor, seeking your input before making major marketing decisions.
  • You uncover and deliver at least two upsell or optimization opportunities per quarter.
  • Campaign workflows run smoothlywith zero missed deadlines and all deliverables meeting Goodway standards.
  • Internal partners (Media, Analytics, SPR, CX) describe your communication as clear, organized, and proactive.
  • QBRs lead to actionable next steps, stronger strategies, and ongoing client confidence.
  • Who You Are

  • You have a minimum of 4 years of working in paid digital media, either within account management, strategy, or media, inclusive of Paid Search, Paid Social, and Programmatic (display, native, etc.) and have a working knowledge of the overall marketing landscape.
  • 6+ years of holistic marketing and media experience and strong knowledge of the digital media and programmatic ecosystem.
  • 4+ years of digital marketing / media experience with a heavy focus on strategy.
  • You have strong analytical and problem-solving abilities (creative analytics) with the ability to provide strategic direction to clients and keep them apprised of industry trends to understand market demand and competitive trends.
  • Proven success selling value and business growth over cost savings.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to zoom in, out, and across topics while quickly synthesizing information to add value to client and internal conversations.
  • Ability to manage change well, a motivated self-starter with a team-player mentality.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent training in a technical discipline. Advanced degree, professional certification, or equivalent training preferred.
