South Mountain Community College (SMCC) reflects the diversity of the surrounding community, a rich mix of rural, urban, and suburban neighborhoods. Many of our students arrive from Phoenix, Laveen, Tempe, Guadalupe, and the surrounding area to attend classes at the main campus or our offsite facility in Guadalupe; we also offer evening courses in Laveen at Betty Fairfax High School.
Of the approximately 5,000 students enrolled at SMCC nearly 70 percent were first-generation college students and 48 percent intended to transfer to a university to further their education. Job Summary
Instructs Physics classes (lectures / laboratory sessions) for students from diverse backgrounds and / or cultures. Teaches and develops various courses within the discipline of Physics ranging from introductory to more advanced coursework. Uses multiple methods of instruction, assessment, and appropriate technologies to engage students and promote student success. Participates in division meetings, campus organizations, and curriculum development as needed.

Academic
A graduate degree is required. A faculty may qualify with any of the following :

Physics or any degree under the auspices of the physics department of the granting university
Course Subjects
PHY, PHS, or IC discretion
Course Titles and Keywords
Any course containing "Physics" in its title, Physical Science, Circuits, Mechanics, Condensed Matter, Astronomy, Cosmology, Electrodynamics, Electrostatics, Fluids, Gravity, Interference, Magnetism, Material Science, Optics, Nanotechnology, Dynamics, Quantum Mechanics, Relativity, Sound, Spectroscopy, Thermodynamics, Waves, or IC discretion
Desired Qualifications
1. Evidence of one or more years of Physics teaching experience at a post-secondary college or university.
2. Evidence of experience teaching college Physics courses ranging from Introductory to Advanced (200 level) coursework
3. Evidence of experiences working with diverse populations of students and staff
4. Evidence of specific experiences using current and relevant pedagogies, such as student-centered teaching (e.g., active or cooperative learning, flipped classrooms, problem-based learning) in the classroom and / or laboratory
5. Evidence of specific experiences using a variety of techniques to assess student learning and improve teaching
6. Evidence of specific experiences using appropriate technology in both lecture and lab environments
Special Working Conditions
May be required to lift or carry up to 40 lbs.
May be required to work evenings and weekends for special events.
