Overview
Site Directors lead dynamic summer camps for K–8th grade, serving as both site General Managers and the public face of the organization. Under the direction of a Field Program Manager you will open and operate a Camp Galileo location serving campers and their families within your community.
Location & Work Schedule
This is a seasonal role running February–September 2026, with a schedule divided into three phases. Exact dates will vary based on the Camp Directors hire date and the dates of camp operations.
- Phase One : Training & Prep (Feb–June / July) : Up to 15 hours per week — mostly flexible and remote, with some required scheduled and in-person commitments. Includes in-person training(s), a Bay Area retreat, virtual training(s), marketing events, and on-site prep at your camp location during the week leading up to camp. Some events may occur during evenings and weekends.
- Phase Two : On-Site (June–August) : On-site hours typically range from 7 : 00 AM to 6 : 00 PM (Mon–Fri), averaging 45+ hours per week over 5–8 weeks, depending on camp placement.
- Phase Three : Wrap-Up (Aug–Sept) : Up to 5 hours total, remote, for final admin tasks and staff reviews.
Responsibilities
Bring Galileo’s spirit to life : Infuse camp with joy, tradition, and creativity; build an inclusive environment where every camper, staff member, and family feels seen, supported, and inspired.Lead with ownership and vision : Own every aspect of your camp’s launch from preseason planning through end-of-summer wrap-up; oversee daily operations, parent communication, and program delivery.Keep camp safe and running smoothly : Prioritize camper safety and family trust; anticipate needs, adapt quickly, and problem-solve to ensure smooth operations.Develop and manage your team : Train and mentor a staff of 10–40; set expectations for instructional standards, provide ongoing feedback and development, and manage staffing, scheduling, and payroll.Model creativity and innovation : Use the Galileo Innovation Approach (GIA) to encourage curiosity and problem-solving; align team activities with Galileo’s mission.Build partnerships : Serve as the primary face of camp; communicate proactively with families, facilities partners and HQ support teams; collaborate with the Field Program Manager and community partners.Compensation
Year 1 estimate includes seasonal phases with a mix of hourly, salary, and performance components :
Preseason (Feb–June) : $21 / hour for flexible, part-time prep and trainingCamp Season (June–Aug) : $1,350 / week full-time, exempt Camp Director during summer operationsPostseason (Aug–Sept) : $21 / hour for light part-time workBonus / Commission : $1 per camper-week enrollment, plus potential commission for add-on weeksExact compensation may vary by geography and tenure; Galileo practices emphasize equity and fairness.
