Job Title : Preschool Special Education Teacher

(Teacher of Students with Disabilities or Teacher of the Handicapped)

Location : Livingston, NJ

Position Type : Full-Time | Exempt

Salary : $75,000.00 to $85,000.00

Position Summary :

Pillar Care Continuum is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Preschool Special Education Teacher to provide individualized instruction and developmental support to students ages 3–5 with diverse learning needs. This role involves implementing IEP-aligned lessons that foster early academic, communication, motor, and social-emotional growth in a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities :

Develop and implement lesson plans based on IEP goals and NJ Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards

Create and maintain a supportive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate classroom

Collaborate with paraprofessionals, therapists, and other team members to support student learning

Conduct regular assessments and maintain accurate documentation of student progress

Participate in IEP meetings and assist with goal setting and accommodations

Communicate regularly with families to foster strong partnerships and promote student growth

Integrate sensory-based, play-oriented, and therapeutic strategies into instruction

Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all students

Collaborate with related service providers, including speech, occupational, physical, aquatic, and hippotherapy teams (if applicable)

Supervise and guide Teacher Assistants, volunteers, and student teachers

Implement behavior management strategies and maintain effective classroom management

Stay current with best practices in special education and early childhood development

Serve as a professional role model and uphold respectful, positive interactions at all times

Perform other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Strong understanding of child development and special education practices

Ability to adapt instruction based on individual strengths and needs

Skill in using adaptive equipment and incorporating therapeutic techniques

Physical capability to support active learning and student needs

Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills

Commitment to confidentiality and compliance with DOE policies

Basic proficiency in educational technology and data management systems

Qualifications :

Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field

Valid NJ DOE Teacher of Students with Disabilities or Teacher of the Handicapped certification

Valid NJDOE Preschool–Grade 3 (P-3) certification

Experience working with preschool-aged children with special needs

CPR / First Aid Certification preferred
