Equipment and Maintenance Manager
FLSA : Exempt
Functions
Manages employees in the maintenance of the railroad construction equipment and transportation fleet.
Ensures all safety rules and practices for shop employees are followed explicitly.
Manages the maintenance and repair of railroad construction and fleet equipment in order that they meet FRA and company standards and in such a manner as to reduce life cycle cost and increase reliability and availability.
Supervise 3 - 5 employees with responsibility for maintenance and repair of railroad construction equipment as well as fleet vehicles.
Maintain a positive safety culture, monitor or provide job briefings as needed, maintain all safety records and provide training as required.
Comply with all FRA and company mechanical policies per the appropriate Safety Rules and Safe Job Procedures.
Manage your direct reports to maintain the highest mechanical standards per company policies.
Schedule and assist in performing all preventive maintenance in your responsibility area.
Respond to all equipment failures based on company needs.
Maintain all mechanical reports / records per company / FRA standards.
On an as needed basis, provide mechanical assistance upon request.
Develop positive relationships with other departments and vendors.
Manage the mechanical budget.
Manage procurement policies to ensure properly functioning equipment while protecting profitability.
Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Required Skills
Analysis and Problem Assessment - identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner.
Interpersonal Skills - focuses on solving conflict, not blaming; speaks and writes clearly and listens to get clarification.
Profitability ensures equipment is properly maintained to reduce unnecessary costs. Provide feedback to management on red flags of misuse of equipment.
Computer skills - including Microsoft Office, iPad, iPhone, GPS location software.
Required Experience
10 years of experience with all aspects of the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment including, but not limited to, hydraulic, diesel, mechanical and electrical systems.
3-5 years of experience managing mechanics with direct profit and loss accountability.
Demonstrated experience adhering to accepted procurement practices including, but not limited to, issuing purchase orders and responding to requisition requests.
This position is the first line of response for equipment maintenance and repair issues. This position requires responsiveness during non-traditional work hours including nights and weekends.
