What you'll be doing
The Public Health Nurse provides professional public health nursing to targeted populations served by the Tuberculosis (TB) Program. Requires extensive interaction with diverse populations, medical providers, WA DOH TB Program, and other community-based agencies. Ability to use independent judgment in providing nursing care to TB clients served by the SRHD TB Program. Ability to work as part of a care team with direction from the SRHD TB Program Coordinator and the SRHD Health Officer. Ability to train and educate medical providers in the community to support TB screening and case management of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI).
Some Essential Functions Include:
- Collaborate with patient's PCP and other medical providers to ensure that TB management activities will not interfere with the management of other medical conditions.
- Report all TB disease cases and case contacts using the Washington Disease Reporting System (WDRS) per WA Department of Health TB Program protocols.
- Provide Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) to assigned TB disease cases to ensure medication adherence and monitor for tolerance.
- Perform independent clinical nursing skills and assessments from the time of initial case reporting and throughout the duration of TB management to ensure safe care; findings and test results will be reported to the SRHD Health Officer once received to ensure safe care.

What we need from youRequired Education:
- Bachelor's degree involving major studies in nursing (BSN), including studies in public health nursing.
Required Experience:
- Experience with medication administration via IV, IM or PO
- Current knowledge of infection control practices
*NOTE* appropriate classwork will meet the minimum experience requirements for this position.
Required Licensure/Certification:
- Current Washington State Registered Nurse license
- Valid motor vehicle operator's license/insurance or the ability to access multiple sites in a timely manner.
Preferred Experience:
- Three years' experience in infection prevention, epidemiology, disease investigation, or a medical field.
- Communicable disease prevention and investigation, with knowledge and/or experience with Tuberculosis infection, disease, and treatment and recent clinical experience in the inpatient setting, caring for respiratory patients or patients with communicable disease.
- Some demonstrated experience in emergency response and planning is desirable, preferably in public health.
