Job Description : University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a Full-Time Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner to help support the Psychiatric Emergency Services. Shifts : Monday-Friday Location : Western Psychiatric HospitalSpecifics : The Psychiatric Emergency Services department performs psychiatric level of care assessments on individuals who are in psychiatric crisis. We are a 24 / 7 / 365 site and provide ~12,000 assessments per year, with a focus on determining level of care needs including inpatient vs. outpatient services / referrals. The patient population is quite diverse, including all age ranges (adults and children) and clinical presentations including but not limited to mood disorders, psychosis, addictions, eating disorders, and autism spectrum disorders. This is a primary teaching site for medical students, nursing students, PA / NP students and psychiatric residents with ample opportunity for growth, both clinically and academically. Taking this position would result in joining a group of core emergency psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners who thrive in assisting those in crisis. Individuals who apply for this position should have a passion for emergency psychiatry, be comfortable working in high intensity settings with patients who are frequently in crisis and have some skill / experience in determining psychiatric levels of care including both inpatient and outpatient levels. The APP is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care. The APP has responsibility, authority, and accountability for the provision of care through supervision by and collaboration with a physician. The APP manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with all team members. The role of the APP encompasses the beginnings of leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision.
