Data Engineer
Designs, builds, and maintains data infrastructure for the Office of Public Health (OPH) Bureau of Health Informatics (BHI). Creates and manages the systems and pipelines that enable efficient and reliable flow of data, including ingestion, processing, and storage. Collects data from various sources, transforming and cleaning it to ensure accuracy and consistency. Loads data into storage systems or data warehouses. Optimizes data pipelines, infrastructure, and workflows for performance and scalability. Monitors data pipelines and systems for performance issues, errors, and anomalies, and implement solutions to address them. Implements security measures to protect sensitive information. Collaborates with data scientists, analysts, and other partners to understand their data needs and requirements, and to ensure that the data infrastructure supports the organization's goals and objectives. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and design scalable solutions that meet business needs. Implements and maintains ETL processes to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data. Designs and manages data storage systems, including relational databases, NoSQL databases, and data warehouses. Maintains knowledge about industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in data engineering, and incorporating the trends into the organization's data infrastructure. Provides technical guidance to other staff. Communicates effectively with partners at all levels of the organization to gather requirements, provide updates, and present findings. Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications Required : Bachelor's degree, or Associate's degree plus 3 years of professional experience, or 6 years of professional work experience. Minimum 5 years professional experience working as a Backend Data Engineer or similar role. Minimum 3 years professional experience in programming languages, database systems, and data engineering libraries. Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills; effective organizational and time management skills. Great attention to detail and follow up. Ability to manage projects, assignments, and competing priorities. Proficient in the use of Zoom, Teams, and Microsoft Office, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Desired : Advanced degree. Minimum 6 years professional experience working as a Data Engineer or similar role. Minimum 4 years professional experience in programming languages, database systems, and / or data engineering libraries. Minimum 1 year professional experience with cloud computing platforms. Relevant industry certifications.
