Job Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director of the Academic Assistance and Tutoring Centers, the Director is responsible for planning, directing, controlling, evaluating and implementing academic support programs in the department. Supervises a team of Science specialists. Position functions with a high degree of autonomy and works in close collaboration and communication with the colleges, campus retention programs, and academic departments. The Director is responsible for supporting the University's graduation and retention efforts by providing direction and guidance to staff and students. Responsible for ongoing development and review of existing and new academic initiatives that support the strategic plans and mission of the University. Coordinate the teaching component of the math and science courses offered in the department. Teaches their own sections of science courses (ex. Organic chemistry, General Chemistry, Physics). Assists in formulating and administering assessment efforts for the unit. Acts on behalf of the Executive Director as his / her designee. #CA-AR

Department Overview
The Academic Assistance and Tutoring Centers is a large centralized academic support unit in Student Affairs. We provide an inclusive and interactive learning environment where students participate in reinforcing and retaining knowledge in multi-disciplinary writing, math, and science subjects through co-curricular academic services including classes, workshops, office hours, content reviews, drop-in tutoring, a writing studio, and writing appointments.
The AATC supports students through pathways for academic success which includes success coaching, learning strategies workshops, and support for students exploring graduate and law school with pre-law and pre-graduate advising.
The Math Diagnostic Testing Project is a program in AATC that supports math testing in K-12 California schools. AATC'ss administrative support team provides payroll and human resources assistance as well as program information for students and staff.
AATC consists of 20 professional staff and 400 undergraduate BX tutors and readers and student assistants.

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
