The Story

Imagine walking through a neighborhood in DC, where families are doing their best but sometimes struggle with challenges that could put them at risk. Instead of waiting for a crisis to escalate, you step in as a Community Responder - a trusted neighbor, a supportive guide, and a bridge to resources that can change lives.

You're not an authority figure. You're a partner. You listen, de-escalate, and connect parents and caregivers with support before child welfare involvement becomes necessary. Whether it's linking a family to parenting classes, helping a caregiver find mental health support, or guiding someone toward stable housing, your role is about prevention, trust, and empowerment .

What You'll Do

• Build trust with families through outreach, home visits, and presence in the community.
• Provide rapid assessments and connect families to resources such as counseling, employment assistance, or education.
• Step in during high-stress situations with trauma-informed crisis support and de-escalation.
• Follow up to ensure families remain connected to services and continue to move forward.
• Collaborate with schools, clinics, community groups, and child welfare partners to create wrap-around support.
