Crating / Shipping Specialist
This position is responsible for the daily packaging and shipping of knock-down and assembled fabricated products and for receiving operations in a just-in-time fabrication shop. The Crating / Shipping Specialist may be required to assist other employees on key work as required.
Essential Job Duties :
- Review daily shipping schedule to identify items to be prepared for shipment.
- Identify and inventory all parts and fabricated components needed to complete shipping order (order line items, glass kits, anchors, mullions, astragals, etc.).
- Visually inspect appearance of finished product for cosmetic quality.
- Inspect finished product for defects and verify dimensions and quality expectations using UL and Intertek certified tape measure, caliper or template.
- Log production errors and timely notify Lead person of necessary remakes.
- If applicable, affix appropriate certification label to the finished product.
- Select appropriate packaging / crating / palletizing method for custom quality, damage-free delivery and properly package all components to prevent damage while in transit.
- Understand, incorporate and execute appropriate packaging method for each shipment in accordance with company policies and standards.
- When necessary, build crates to safely ship finished products.
- Identify all packaging with company order number; weigh and photograph packaged products prior to shipment; record weights and dimensions of shipments on paperwork.
- Responsible for careful and accurate collection and submission of production paperwork.
- Accurately complete LTL carrier documentation for timely delivery and submit same to front office nightly.
- Safely and securely load daily shipments on designated carriers.
- Receive and verify incoming goods are correct and the quantities are accurate. Transfer in-bound materials to appropriate departments or assigned storage areas.
- Monitor and maintain inventories of shipping department materials and supplies.
- Perform assigned work to production and time standards.
- Collaborate with Lead persons and other shop personnel to ensure materials for each shipment are on schedule and in the proper location.
- Make routine decisions using problem solving skills to resolve issues, or seek assistance.
- Perform daily and periodic inspection of equipment and tools, and conduct preventive and corrective maintenance as prescribed in the manufacturers' operating instructions.
- Maintain performance on assigned area equipment and report deficiencies to Lead person or VP of Operations.
- Keep work area clean and orderly.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and for cost and waste reduction.
- Assist with general shop labor tasks.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
General Production Standards :
Compliance with industry, UL and Intertek procedures and with company policy, procedures and best practices, with special attention to safety procedures.Responsible for checking all production dimensions within 1 / 32 of specifications (unless otherwise specified).Responsible for inspection of work product to include material type, gauge, squareness or accuracy of all cuts, Go / No-Go determinations.Perform only those functions for which employee has training or experience.
